Located in Heswall, Wirral, and founded by the Bamford family in memory of their first rescue, Badger, Parkgate Pony Sanctuary has provided lifelong care to over 25 rescued ponies. Entirely volunteer-run and community-supported, we’re dedicated to offering safety, dignity, and love to equines in need.
At the Parkgate Pony Sanctuary Heswall site, four secure acres hold modern stables and safe grazing, acting as the charity’s rehabilitation centre where horses and ponies receive intensive veterinary care and daily monitoring until they are ready to rejoin the main herds.
The Parkgate Pony Sanctuary Parkgate site spans four acres and is the charity’s only owned land—gifted by a long-standing supporter to guarantee lifelong security for the horses. Sheltered paddocks offer year-round grazing, and summer open days explain how the sanctuary earned its name.
The Parkgate Pony Sanctuary Neston site covers fourteen acres on the town’s rural fringe, with roomy field shelters and well-drained grazing for larger herds. A fenced dog-walking field welcomes public bookings; every modest fee directly funds feed, bedding and vital veterinary treatment.

Through talks, school visits, and hands-on experiences, we teach equine care, stable skills, and compassion. Our ponies also visit care homes, offering therapy and comfort
Once a pony joins our sanctuary, it’s part of the family. We never sell or trade animals. Rehoming is rare and only ever to trusted, monitored environments.
