Sanctuary Updates
January 26, 2025

As the new year begins, we’re taking time to reflect on the lives touched and challenges overcome at the sanctuary in 2024. From heartbreaking farewells to inspiring recoveries, it’s your support that fuels every step we take — and gives animals like Blossom, Peanut, and Woody the second chance they deserve.

❄️ January at the Sanctuary: Looking Back, Looking Ahead

As we welcomed 2025, we took a moment to reflect on the year gone by. 2024 was full of challenges, hard-won progress, sad goodbyes and new beginnings — and none of it would have been possible without your continued support.

🥜 From Rescue to Recovery: Peanut and Woody’s Journey
We began last year by welcoming Peanut, a gentle soul in need of urgent help. In July, Woody faced life-threatening colic and required emergency surgery. Watching him now, happy and thriving in the field with his friends, is a reminder of how far your support can go.

🕊️ Goodbyes and New Friends
We sadly said goodbye to two of our older residents, Josh and Snowy. They’ll always hold a special place in our hearts. But we also made space for new faces — Blossom the Donkey, some hens, and two wonderfully eccentric emus, Eric and Ernie.

We were also proud to help our friends at Cheshire Guinea Pig Rescue secure a new home, giving them the space and stability to carry on their brilliant work.

🐾 Blossom’s Battle with Laminitis
Since arriving eight weeks ago, Blossom has been on box rest with soft bedding and a closely monitored diet. Her hooves were in a very poor state due to long-term laminitis and neglectful trimming. Our farrier, Chris, has been incredible, carefully reshaping her feet to relieve pressure and pain.

Last week, Leahurst vets visited to take X-rays. The news was sobering — her front right pedal bone is severely rotated and dangerously close to coming through the sole. Despite this, Blossom has shown extraordinary resilience. She walked in for the procedure without fuss and stood like a star through it all.

Her recovery will be long and delicate, but with continued support from our farrier and vets, there’s still hope. We’re committed to helping her every step of the way.

💖 Thank You for Being With Us
Your donations, kind words and ongoing support made all of this possible. From saving lives to offering comfort in the final moments, everything we do is because of you. As we step into a new year, we’re full of hope and determined to keep growing, rescuing and healing.

Here’s to another year of making a difference, together.
